Vanilla pods available in glass tubes containing five pods, bulk packaging of 100 g, 250 g,  500 g and 1 kg and natural vanilla powder made from 100% pure ground up vanilla pods in 25 g pouches. Vanilla comes from the only edible orchid plant and the pods contain the oily seeds that are highly prized. Real vanilla is expensive as each plant must be pollinated individually by hand and thus the whole production is extremely labour intensive. The green pods must be cured in the sun over several days, raised to high temperatures and 'sweated' in cloth to achieve the complex balance of sugars and aromatics, then dried and straightened out for several weeks. This process also transforms the green seed pods into the characteristic wrinkly, dark-brown pods.
